94 POINTS - Wine Enthusiast (Editor's Choice)
This is a 100% Cab Sauv from the Wallula vineyard, made by Gilles Nicault of Long Shadows. A tight, focused, pure, firm, classic Cab, it offers bucket loads of sweet cassis and cherry fruit, sculptured with crisp acids and polished tannins. A big, supple bottle that gracefully unwraps itself to show streaks of graphite, licorice, smoke and coffee; it could pass for a cult Cab from one of Napa's great boutiques. ~ Paul Gregutt
93 POINTS - Wine Advocate
The 2006 Andreas is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the then Wallula Vineyard made by Gilles Nicault, the resident winemaker at Shoup’s Long Shadows winery. The wine was aged for 30 months in new French oak. Deep purple-colored, it offers up an intriguing perfume of wood smoke, mineral, spice box, balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. This is followed by a dense, structured wine that is more reminiscent of Napa Valley than eastern Washington. Layered, plush, and extracted, this lengthy offering should evolve for 5-7 years and drink well through 2026 if not longer. ~ Dr. Jay Miller
Wallula Vineyard - Horse Heaven Hills
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine shows a deep color that leads to flavors of ripe black cherries, chocolate and oak spices. 2006 was a warm vintage that gave the wine those ripe flavors while Wallula Vineyard’s terroir brought some hints of earthiness that well-define its sense of place. The full mouthfeel from entry to finish shows great intensity, that combined with silky texture coats the entire palate with rich flavors and tannins.
This 100% Cab Sauv was fermented in small vats and kept 30 days on skin for increased complexity. After pressing, the wine was aged for 30 months in French Oak using the cooper Vicard. At the fourth racking, this wine was bottled and bottled aged for 6 months.
